TMD secures multi-platform distribution through accurate and seamless metadata translation

Aylesbury, UK - 6 February 2012: TransMedia Dynamics (TMD), a world leader in the development and delivery of solutions and services to the global media, broadcast and archive industries, has added enhanced multi-platform functionality to its Mediaflex asset management system. An extension to the Mediaflex Publish module ensures that content is delivered to online distribution networks such as Amazon, iTunes or a video on demand service, with the correct metadata schema automatically imposed.

One of the major challenges for multi-platform content delivery is ensuring that the correct metadata in the right format is packaged and delivered either with the essence or as a separate transfer. The most common reason for content to be rejected by online delivery networks is that the metadata is incorrect or incomplete. To eliminate errors without adding to the workload, TMD has added the ability for the users to define templates of schemas for each delivery platform. These templates are populated at the point of delivery, ensuring each network receives a perfect file.

"In supplying multiple platforms, getting the content right is the easy part," said Tony Taylor, CEO of TMD. "Transcoding engines are driven by standard templates to produce the right format and resolution. We have extended that principle to tackle the much bigger challenge of getting the metadata right.

"This is all part of putting control into the hands of the user," he added. "As each new delivery platform comes along it will have its defined metadata schema. The new functionality in Mediaflex Publish allows the user to define a new XSLT XML transformation, to set up the profile of how the content and metadata is moved. It is simple, fast, and most important it is handled by the user at the moment they need to add a new publishing point."
